USCG – seventh BWMS type approval application

clip_image006 The US Coast Guard issued a bulletin stating that Purimar Ballast Water Management System submitted an application seeking Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) type approval. This is the seventh such application received from various manufacturers. (10/2/17) [].

USCG – TVNCOE website

clip_image007 The website for the USCG Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise (TVNCOE) has relocated. (9/29/17) [].

Port Canaveral – security zone expansion

clip_image007[1] The US Coast Guard proposes to expand the boundaries of the security zone in Port Canaveral Harbor adjacent to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Comments must be received by 3 November. 82 Fed. Reg. 46007 (10/3/17) [].

USCG – Belfast, ME anchorage areas

    In the September 2018 edition of Maritime Reporter and Engineering News, you can find my article entitled "Confidential near-miss reporting". The article discusses the value of near-miss reporting in the improvement of safety and identifies a methodology that the US Coast Guard could adopt, with industry support, to implement a confidential near-miss reporting regime similar (but not identical) to the program utilized in the aviation industry.
