NOT keeping the watch
In the June 2016 edition of Maritime Reporter and Engineering News, you can find my article entitled "NOT keeping the watch". In the article, I discuss how keeping a proper watch is commonplace, but that mariners sometimes fail to keep a proper watch due to various circumstances. The most common reasons for failure to keep a proper watch include: lack of skill; lack of training and knowledge; and lack of attention to detail. The most common causes of lack of attention to detail include: health; drug abuse; alcohol abuse; stress; fatigue; distraction; and complacency. The sea is unforgiving.
